If you have been watching the SQLBits 8 agenda like a hawk you might have noticed that one of my submissions has been chosen for the early morning Saturday slot. It is called “SQL Server Clustering for Dummies” and hopefully will provide a very strong introduction to you all so that you may have a much better appreciation of what Clustering is all about and what it means to the SQL DBA.

The more observant of you will have noticed that the SQLBits agenda has been published and I am pleased to announce that as of today I am part of this excellent event. Even better is that I will be presenting one of my favourite topics …SQL Clustering of course. Really looking forward to getting this together but I’m really short on time so will be going at 101 mph to get this and my SQLRally session ready in time. Roll on Brighton.

Its about time for a SQLBits news update don’t ya think? The time is nearly upon us again and nearly everything has been decided the Thursday and and Friday sessions chosen, so all that is left is the Saturday ones. I must admit that I was hoping for a Friday session this year, but as always competition is rife and if I get selected at all it will be an achievement. However it won’t be the biggest disappointment in the world to me if I don’t due to my incredibly hectic schedule right at this moment and additionally my selection for SQLRally in Orlando in May to prepare for (oh happy days!)
Anyway If I can make it to SQLBits 8 I hope to see you all there. When the Saturday sessions are picked I’ll let you know.

Not really breaking news anymore, but if you still haven’t heard …SQLBits 8 is set to be held on the South Coast of England. I will be very interested in exactly where but for now look forward to the idea of some lovely sea air to help clear my head first thing in the mornings.

Nearly everything is uploaded to my bits section now, but if you are keeping a watchful eye on these pages you will know that I still need to deliver my VSAN and VCluster how tos. I certainly won’t forget so please keep checking back. If you would prefer to register your interest and have me send you a mail when they go up instead then please get in touch.

Presentation was delivered successfully on Saturday just past. I have uploaded all my URL references today and my slide deck. Hope to put even more online tomorrow if possible.

Spent all day at work today, polishing the slides and did 3 run throughs with the demos. I am close to having a very good idea on the absolute final draft now. My biggest challenge with the presentation is ensuring I keep up the pace, especially in the beginning because time really is short. By the final run through today I managed to get the presentation with demos down to 47 minutes and taking into account no disturbances or questions this is about right.

So today I aim to complete the CLR parts of my presentation. I am fully expecting that this part of the presentation is the one in which people will possibly be the least interested in, since there is a CLR presentation on at exactly the same time as me however I think it is useful. Thats why at very least I am going to give enough material/ reference so that any DBA who has not yet played with it will be able to try it out.
The other thing on my agenda today is to try and get my timings through my presentation recorded. There are areas that I need to speed up, such as the DBA 2.5 part since this bit is mostly opinion and talking, but there will be a nice Virtualization introduction demo at the end of that section for anyone not currently using any for their own development.
Finally if I get all that done, then I seriously need to start finalising all my demos. Have done a few adhoc run-throughs but this obviously needs some final polish.

Not long to go now. Exactly a week today where my entire presentation needs to be complete. Working very hard getting the slides finished and need to get every demo finished before this Saturday so that I can have several “proper” practice sessions. It is hard work, but I’ve definitely enjoyed the experience.
